Near Tepoztlán's bustling marketplace is the 16th century Church of the Convent of the Nativity. Once you've seen enough churches, they all begin to look the same, so it takes something special to make an otherwise common structure stand out. In the case of this church, it was the mosaic archway entrance that did the trick. The large arch adorning the gated entrance is an intricate collage made of beans, rice, and seed that conveys numerous indiginous motifs. Spectacular detail and beautiful imagery. | ||
