Tepoztlán, México is a small pueblo just northeast of Cuernavaca which is best known for its mountaintop Aztec temple, El Pirámide del Tepozteco (see arrow). It is a steep and sturdy 1-hour hike to the top, at which point you are rewarded with a wonderful view from atop the temple. Similar to Peru's Machu Picchu, the elevation of these ruins adds to their mystique. |

The temple was built between 1150-1350 AD, and was only recently discovered in the late 1800s. Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec serpent god, was born nearby, and it is said he spent much of his youth at this pyramid. |

| A simple looking scene at first, but quite interesting when examined. First you have the sizable stone sphere and cross, adorned by a bouquet of flowers. Is this a grave? A place of worship? A simple sculpture? To the left you have a large tree trunk, with a unique little fella sharing its root structure to maintain life. Not seen, but just off to the right is a rooster taking shelter from the light rain under a small table canopy. |  |
