The majority of the streets in Cuenca are all handlaid cobblestone, bordered by smooth red tile sidewalks, generating a prominent Spanish theme consistent with the architecture. Real estate is narrow, deep, and at least two stories high throughout, with each city block comprised of one congruent structure of altering facades. A well-groomed front is often adjacent to a run down one, yet nothing feels out of place. Most of these photos need no description, just observation. | |

An excellent example of the rapidly changing personalities of a typical downtown street. Brightly colored changing business fronts, with individual wrought-iron balconies. |

| This withered edificio overhangs the Rio Tomebamba below, where indiginous women wash clothes in the river and set them out to dry on the grassy banks. One floor of this building is actually an operating dentist's office. | ![]() |

This building with intricately painted windows difficult to see here, faces opposite Catedral Calderón. Within its arches lie four shoe shine stations, two magazine stands, a gift shop, a Panama Hat company, and a snack cart. |
